Visitors  to school and volunteers

Visitors to Schools Policy

All Government Schools must have a ‘Visitors to School’ Policy based on strict guidelines issues by the Department of Education and Training (DET). The main aim of the policy is to ensure the safety and privacy of students and staff by effectively monitoring and managing visitors to the school.

DET guidelines state that ‘Visitors are defined as all people other than staff members, students and parents/guardians involved in the delivering or collecting children at the start or end of the school day.’  This means that if parents are visiting the school for any reason between 9.00am and 3.30pm e.g. parent classroom helper or other volunteer role, they should report their arrival and departure at the main office.

Signing in and out

All visitors (see definition above) who arrive at school between 9.00am and 3.30pm must report directly to the Office to sign in via an interactive, integrated information terminal known as the Compass Kiosk. The Kiosk is a touch-screen unit that integrates seamlessly with the school's system, Compass, a portal for parents, staff and students.

1. Sign in following the prompts on the Kiosk screen, attach the 'Visitor Pass' to a lanyard (located at the Kiosk) and wear this for the duration of your visit.

2. Upon leaving the school, return to the Kiosk, follow the prompts to 'sign out' (entering the number on your 'Visitor Pass') and return the lanyard.

Volunteers and Privacy

We have a strong volunteer program at our school. Volunteers come from across the community - our families, local community members, local business members etc., who support our teachers and students in a variety of different ways from helping hear children read, to working with them in the classroom on specific tasks, to attending excursions and special events.

All persons using the Beaumaris North Primary School facility are subject to the provisions of the Information Privacy Act 2000 and Health Records Act 2001. Specifically this means that personal or health information of students or staff displayed or located in this facility has been collected for the purposes of the school. These purposes include the care of students and the efficient management of school services which are carried out by designated persons.

No person is to disclose information obtained in this facility and covered under these Acts for non-school purposes without the written consent of the Principal.
