VOLUNTEERS

Parent involvement is a key feature of our school. Our Welfare Groups (Parents’ Club and Fathers’ Activity Club) are very active in fundraising and facilities development and provide avenues for social contact and enjoyment for families within the school. The parent community also manages our Uniform Shop, Head Lice Program (Head Hunters), Student Banking, Working Bees, biennial Fete and Canteen.

Parent volunteers play an integral role in the education of our students by providing support to teachers in classroom programs, learning centre tasks, Sports Days, Bike Education and Excursions. The Class Representatives program provides an additional link between teachers and parents and is an amazing support to many aspects and programs of the school. This collaborative approach results in the development of positive attitudes and educational outcomes.

Please let the Office know if you would like to be involved!

Working with Children Check

From 2017, anyone wishing to volunteer at BNPS is required to provide a Working with Children Check (WCC). A volunteer school worker is a person who without payment or reward voluntarily engages in:

  • School Council functions
  • Activities for the welfare of the school at the request of the Principal or School Council
  • School work
  • Attends State or Regional meetings

This applies to ALL parent volunteer positions e.g. Literacy groups, Canteen, Mother’s/Father’s Day Stalls, Uniform Shop, Bike Education, Excursions, Head Hunters, Sports Days, Student Disco, Class Reps, Fete, Market Night, Year 6 Graduation, School Concert, etc.

How to apply

To apply online for a free WCC (valid for 5 years), go to: http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/utility/home/

Once a WCC has been presented at the Office, photocopied and placed on file for the school records, a volunteer can commence work at BNPS.
