Principal's Message

On behalf of the staff and School Council, welcome to Beaumaris North Primary School (BNPS). It is my privilege to be the principal of this great school, and to hold the responsibility of educating its young people and serving the community.

A key feature of BNPS is the warmth of the people. Students, parents, staff, and the local inhabitants exist here with friendly ease and a sense that the village is, indeed, raising the child. Our parents are active within the school and our PFA is part of the fabric of our environment. The PFA support the school by organising fetes (every second year), working bees, small maintenance projects, fund raising, and canteen support. We are grateful to our parents every single day for their ongoing commitment to the broader community of students.

As an educator, I am committed to curiosity, inclusivity, everybody thriving, and using a range of metrics to help us strategically make decisions that benefit everyone. Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, and we know that this is a careful balance for schools and families to find together, in partnership.

The staff at BNPS are second to none, demonstrating care and expertise in the craft of teaching, pursuing excellent learning growth for every child. I lead an outstanding executive team and we are committed to supporting the ongoing professional development of all staff, guided by what research has clearly demonstrated works best in schools.

Our teachers have a strong culture of collaboration which is evident in their team planning and intellectual preparation for lessons. Teachers are ready with supports and extension opportunities for students at all levels of capability, recognising that precise whole-class instruction is vital, followed by differentiated opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, and avenues to extend and inquire once expert level understanding has been achieved.

With our long and successful history as an IB World School, the Department of Education’s mandated Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0) and the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 (VC 2.0), are balanced with our expertise in inquiry and ‘out of the box’ thinking. The final step in the VTLM 2.0 is ‘Supported Application’, which is where our school’s IB experience sets us apart from others. The IB Learner Profile Attributes are just as relevant in the VC 2.0 as they are in the IB. We value and encourage our students to be reflective, balanced, risk-takers (with their learning), communicators, caring, open-minded, knowledgeable, inquirers, principled, and thinkers. These are tenets useful in and beyond young people’s school experience and drive our day-to-day interactions.

Students at BNPS enthusiastically participate in a range of sports, visual arts, and performing arts. We cater for a wide range of interests because our community is rich in its exposure to what is on offer in the world. Our connection to neighbouring schools is how we demonstrate our commitment to system-wide education, knowing our responsibility is to prepare our students for success in their secondary education and so their individual talents can be recognised and celebrated.

Finally, I look forward to meeting all members of our community and welcome you to contact me if there is anything you would like to discuss. Our shared passion for giving all young people the opportunity to thrive is where it begins.

Warm regards,
Julia Stoppa
